A standard air duct cleaning removes dust from the supply and return trunks/branches. A Furnace Deep Clean goes further—cleaning key components inside the air handler that directly impact airflow, efficiency, and indoor air quality. We follow NADCA ACR principles (source removal first, document everything) so you know exactly what was done and why.

When a Furnace Deep Clean makes sense

  • Heavy buildup on the blower wheel, motor housing, or inside the return/evaporator cabinet
  • Persistent dust/odor after a standard duct cleaning
  • After remodeling (drywall/wood dust pulled into the air handler)
  • Pet hair or visible debris matting on the coil face/filter rack area
  • Reduced airflow (weak vents, long run times) or visible contamination in photos

Note: If we find microbial growth, we’ll discuss options for an EPA-registered antimicrobial treatment—applied after source removal and only when the label allows HVAC use.

What’s included in a Diamond Ducts Furnace Deep Clean

  1. Full inspection & photo documentation of the blower compartment, return plenum, supply plenum, filter rack, and coil access panel
  2. Blower assembly service — remove (where accessible), detail clean the wheel/blades and housing, wipe motor shell, and reinstall
  3. Cabinet & plenum cleaning — vacuum and wipe interiors; remove debris that gets re-entrained into the airstream
  4. Evaporator coil access cleaning — access through service panel; brush/vacuum the accessible face and clean the drain pan/trap (full coil clean available when needed)
  5. Burner section/heat exchanger visual clean (furnaces) — clear loose debris and dust from accessible surfaces
  6. Filter rack & door seals — clean, check for bypass gaps that leak dust around the filter
  7. Reassembly & testing — run check, verify no rattles/rubs, confirm airflow improvement at representative registers

What’s not included (and why)

  • Repairs or redesign of ductwork/equipment (quoted separately if needed)
  • Chemical coil cleaning of severely impacted coils (we’ll advise if a dedicated coil cleaning is warranted)
  • Sanitizers by default — we reserve antimicrobials for cases that warrant them and only with EPA-registered products for HVAC use

Utah County realities we see

  • Basement finishes in Lehi/AF/PG often load the blower and cabinet with drywall dust
  • Filter bypass in older Provo/Orem systems pulls unfiltered air into the cabinet
  • Attic/crawlspace returns can add debris; pair deep clean with Aeroseal duct sealing when leakage is high

Deep Clean vs. standard duct cleaning

Service Primary Focus When to choose
Standard Air Duct Cleaning Supply/return trunks and branches (source removal) General dust, post-remodel debris, move-in/move-out
Furnace Deep Clean Blower, cabinet/plenums, coil access, filter rack, drain pan Heavy buildup, odors/persistent dust, airflow complaints

Add-ons we may recommend

  • Dedicated coil cleaning if the coil face is matted or airflow is restricted
  • Aeroseal duct sealing when pre-test leakage is high and rooms are uneven — see how to read your duct report
  • Targeted antimicrobial treatment only when warranted and labeled for HVAC use

FAQ

How long does a Furnace Deep Clean take?
Typically 2.5–5 hours for a single system, depending on access and buildup.

Will it fix weak airflow?
If buildup is the cause, yes—you’ll often feel a difference at the vents. If leakage or design is the culprit, pair with Aeroseal or discuss redesign options.

Do you need to remove the blower?
When access allows, we remove and detail clean the wheel/housing for best results. If removal isn’t feasible, we’ll perform the most effective in-place cleaning and explain why.
